But first, let’s delve into the history of the Frigidaire Company. In 1913, the first refrigerator went on sale. 1915 Alfred Mellows introduced a new refrigerator model, marking a significant revolution. Subsequently 1916, the Guardian Refrigerator Company was founded in Fort Wayne to market these refrigerators. In 1918, General Electronics took over the company, and during this transition, it acquired the name “Frigidaire.” From there, the company experienced rapid and steady growth thanks to technological innovations and product quality. Between 1919 and 1929, Frigidaire garnered substantial profits. In 1926, Frigidaire became the first to produce all-steel refrigerators, setting a new industry standard. They also pioneered the introduction of porcelain coating on steel refrigerators. They introduced numerous innovations, including the first home food chest freezer, self-contained air conditioner, hydrator, and self-oiling rotary compressor unit. Frigidaire was also the first to introduce window-type air conditioners. Despite the challenges of the Great Depression in the 1930s, the company continued to thrive. By the end of World War II, they had over 20,000 employees in the United States.

After selling more than one million refrigerators, they expanded into international markets. 1932, refrigerator production had exceeded 2.5 million units, increasing to six million by 1941. In 1947, they expanded their product line to include laundry appliances. The legacy of innovation in the refrigerator industry continued with Frigidaire introducing the first automatic defrosting refrigerator in 1952. In 1964, they proudly presented the jet action washer with a roller featuring an automatic mechanism with no belts, pulleys, or gears, a significant contribution to the industry. In 1979, White Consolidated Industries acquired the company from General Motors, and in 1986, it was sold again to AB Electrolux of Sweden by WCI. In 1991, under AB Electrolux, the company gained further exposure and growth, becoming the leader of a group of brands that included Kelvinator, Gibson, Euro flair, White-Westinghouse, and Tappan. The company continues developing and offering new-generation refrigerators and other home appliances. Their motto states that they devoted themselves to “creating a better tomorrow.”
